Jakarta, Election Supervisory Body - Election Supervisory Body member Fritz Edward Siregar criticized the health requirements of candidate pairs at the 2020 Regional Election in the midst of a non-covid-19 disaster. He conveyed this at the Coordination Meeting for the Preparation for the Registration of Candidate Pairs at the 2020 Simultaneous Regional Election held by the KPU in Jakarta, Wednesday (26/8/2020).

According to Fritz, the nomination mechanism contained in KPU Regulation Number 6 of 2020 concerning the Implementation of Elections for Governors, Deputy Governors, Regents, Deputy Regents, Mayors and Deputy Mayors Simultaneously Continued in Non Natural Covid-19 Disaster Conditions must be clear.

He gave an example if a candidate pair tested positive for Covid-19 after being accepted by the KPU. Even though the person concerned has passed the health test. "We need to discuss things like that further," said Fritz.

He views that the registration mechanism during non-natural disaster conditions became a topic of discussion during a hearing (Meeting to Hear Opinions) with Commission II of the house of representatives some time ago. So he hopes that there will be a similar meeting to discuss technical candidate registration during the pandemic.

"There are several things related to PKPU candidacy during the pandemic that must be discussed further. So I hope there will be further meetings," he said.

Not only that, he also asked the KPU regarding the authority to dismiss ASNs for ASNs who registered themselves as candidate pairs. Related to that, continued Fritz, who has the right to issue the dismissal letter, whether from the Head of BKN or other agencies.

"These issues are the trigger for discussion in this discussion," he explained.

The agenda was also attended by representatives of the 2019 Election Contesting parties. The KPU regulations regarding candidacy are contained in KPU Regulation Number 3 of 2017 concerning Nominations for the Election of Governors, Deputy Governors, Regents, Deputy Regents, Mayors and Deputy Mayors.

KPU Regulation Number 1 of 2020 concerning the Third Amendment to KPU Regulation Number 3 of 2017 concerning Nominations for the Election of Governors, Deputy Governors, Regents, Deputy Regents, Mayors and Deputy Mayors.

KPU Regulation Number 5 of 2020 concerning the Third Amendment to KPU Regulation Number 15 of 2019 concerning Stages, Programs and Schedules for Organizing the Election of Governors, Deputy Governors, Regents, Deputy Regents, Mayors and Deputy Mayors in 2020.
