Jakarta, Election Supervisory Body - Bawaslu member Fritz Edward Siregar hopes that the organizers of the regional elections, especially the KPU and Bawaslu, will get an additional budget for the 2020 simultaneous regional elections to anticipate the spread of co-19.
Fritz's statement addressed the Government Regulation instead of Law (Perppu) No. 2 of 2020 concerning the Election of Regional Heads, which scheduled the 2020 elections on December 9 by taking into account the condition of the co-19 pandemic.
Fritz revealed the reason no one could be certain when the spread of COVID-19 could disappear soon. In anticipating the spread of the Coronavirus, according to him, an additional budget was needed to provide health protocols for KPU and Bawaslu officers in carrying out their duties.
"If the elections are held in December, I am sure the KPU and Bawaslu will ask for additional funds to carry out the election process (pilkada) with the health protocol," Fritz said in a virtual discussion entitled 'Election Scenarios in the Post-Covidnual New Normal Period', in Jakarta (11 / 5/2020).
The health protocol referred to by Fritz was in the form of providing disinfectants, masks, and hand sanitizers for officers. He stressed, both the KPU and Bawaslu no longer wanted to be cheated by the loss of life or illness on election officials such as during the 2019 Concurrent Elections.
He added, even though the election and the election were different, in the co-19 pandemic as it is today, it needed maximum anticipation to minimize the loss of life from the election officials, the participants, and the voters.
"I think we all do not want to be missed by the emergence of many fatalities like the 2019 Elections," he said.
