Jakarta, Election Supervisory Body - Coordinator of the Election Supervisory and Dissemination Division Mochammad Afifuddin stated, the Election Vulnerability Index (IKP) for the 2020 elections will be updated regularly at each stage. IKP is the result of research and analysis conducted by the Election Supervisory Body to identify, find out, as well as prevent potential areas of vulnerability in holding the 2020 elections in conjunction with the covid-19 pandemic.
"So the IKP in the co-19 period we will update (update) per period of the stages (pilkada)," he said in a press conference of the Election Supervisory Body of Election Supervisory Body in the Election Stages of the 2020 Elections at the Bawaslu Building Thamrin Jakarta, Monday (06/15/2020) afternoon.
Afif explained, IKP needs to be updated regularly because of the COVID-19 pandemic which has become a non-natural national disaster. According to him, this health emergency can not be underestimated. Moreover, many election processes or stages require the public or voters to meet directly.
"There are things we must understand that only this time we finally have to consider further related to public health considerations or health protocols that we must follow before the election stages are carried out," said the former JPPR National Coordinator.
Afif explained, IKP will be renewed on June 23, 2020, when the phase will enter the factual verification phase of the support of individual candidate pairs. KPU itself will restart the stage on June 24, 2020. He asserted IKP will be updated again at a later stage such as the updating of the voter list. So at each stage, the potential for vulnerability will be seen as well as preparing for anticipatory steps.
Previously in February 2020, Bawaslu had launched IKP Pilkada 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic. This IKP is designed to map the potential for the 2020 elections which will take place in 270 regions with the function of early anticipation and prevention. While the KPU, through KPU Regulation Number 5 of 2020 concerning Stages, Programs, and Schedule for the Election of 2020, has decided to continue the opening of the 2020 regional elections starting on June 15, 2020.
